To anyone who eats packaged foods:

Trans fats, those chains of hydrogen molecules that cause us so much trouble. Despite the enormous amount of information, media coverage, and even recent legislation that attempts to dissuade people from eating and manufacturers from using trans fats, these harmful ingredients are still being used and consumed in a wide variety of foods.

The most common reason given by people who buy products that contain trans fats: “I didn’t know that it had any trans fat it.” While it might just be due to people not reading the nutrition information listed right on the food packaging, manufactures have gotten sneaky with their usage of misleading serving size suggestions. Yes, even the product that claims “Zero Grams Trans Fat” can still contain these vile chemicals.

So - we come to Transfatspotting.com, a site that will expose and publish common food items that contain trans fats. We will list items that blatantly contain obscene amounts of trans fats, as well as items that claim to be trans fat free, but still contain the ever important term “Partially Hydrogenated” in the ingredients list. No longer will people be awe struck to find out that the product they are eating actually contains trans fats that are harming their body with every bite.

A bit about the inspiration for our site design. There is a 1996 Scottish film titled Trainspotting that has grown in popularity over the years to an almost cult like following. While we don’t want to give away too much about the film, ultimately it is about several friends who choose not to lead the traditional lifestyle, but instead spend their days following “alternative” ambitions.

Our motto “Choose Healthy” is adapted from the opening sequence which is posted below. We all have the choice to eat whatever, whenever we want. If you want to eat shoe polish, you have every right to do so. However, companies that inject our diets with chemicals and ingredients that are known to have adverse effects on our well being, and then hides those contents behind obscure labeling, are making that choice for us. It is out belief that if people were more educated about the foods they eat, they will ultimately choose healthy.
